To me, surfing is a unique and exhilarating experience that connects a surfer with the oceans and our environment like no other sport. As a shaper I feel it is my job to enable a rider to amplify this experience by providing the perfect surfboard for them, whether you are a cruiser, shredder or at the top of your game we can put the right board under your feet.

OUr history

I started shaping boards in my parents' garage—big thanks to Mum and Dad for putting up with the noise, the smell, and parking the car outside for far too long. Over the years, I’ve worked in a range of shaping spaces, including a large-scale factory where I spent six years collaborating with some of Auckland’s top shapers and underground sculptors.

Before launching the Morris label, I dabbled in various trades, beginning with boat painting and fairing. I then shifted to marine propellers and later ventured into crafting snowboards and building movie sets in West Auckland. It was during this time that I began making surfboards commercially, which eventually led to opening the Morris factory in Henderson.

Shaping the shaper

Make it you own

Over the years, I’ve met some of the world’s most interesting surfers, shapers, and designers. An international shaper once told me, “Everyone has something they do really well. Take what you like from their boards and make it your own.” That advice has shaped my approach ever since.

the surfers

Early on

Kiwi legends influenced my designs. Later, global names and endless hours of soaking up ideas—whether from surf mags, design forums, or late-night shaper chats at contest after parties—pushed my craft further.

Good surfers have been key to my journey, providing essential feedback and pushing my designs to new heights. My brother, Phil Morris, a 2004 NZ circuit champ, helped refine longboards to match his progressive style. Another milestone was sponsoring our first team rider, Tom Kibblewhite, in 1996. His talent and partnership have helped evolve Morris longboards into what they are today.

The waves

Over the years

Over the years, we’ve worked with incredible surfers like Dane and Nash Robertson, Jayden Cooper, Shelly Jones, Sophia and Jo Moore, and many more. To all of them—thank you for the support, feedback, and inspiration that keep us riding forward.
